![]() Northwest Indiana Radio Stations Win Radio One Communications won two awards in this year's Indiana Broadcast Association Spectrum Awards. The 25th Anniversary Spectrum Awards Banquet was held November 10, 2012, in Indianapolis. The Indiana 105 Dawn Patrol with Steve Zana, Laura Waluszko and Scott Rosenberg won first place for Best Radio Station Broadcast Personality or Team. “It's so great to see the efforts of our staff recognized on a statewide basis,” said Radio One Communications President Leigh Ellis. The company received a total of seven nominations this year. Indiana 105 (WLJE-FM) was also nominated in the categories Station of the Year; Breaking News Story-Valparaiso Standoff; Best On-Air Promotional Announcement-Corn Hole Promo; and Special Interest and Cultural Programming-”The 219”:Soap Box Derby. X-Rock 103.9 (WXRD-FM) also received a nomination for Humorous Commercial-Paul's Auto Yard Semis and Silos. Stations compete according to market size. The competition is open to all FCC licensed radio stations and television stations in Indiana. In the past several years, Radio One Communications has won several Spectrum Awards, including First Place awards in news, commercial, promotional, and cross-platform categories, and a First Place Radio Station Broadcast Personality or Team for the Indiana 105 Dawn Patrol in 2008. Radio One Communications is the owner/operator of four radio stations serving Northwest Indiana: WAKE-AM AM-1500, WLJE-FM Indiana 105.5, WXRD-FM X-Rock 103.9, and WZVN-FM 107.1 The Z. Radio One Communications turned 48 years old on November 4th. The company was founded by Country Radio Disc Jockey Hall of Famer and Country Music Association (CMA) Charter Member (Card Number One) Leonard “Uncle Len” Ellis and his wife Bee, and remains family-owned by the Ellis family to this day. |
