Northwest Indiana Morning Show, Commercial Series Receive First Place Awards
Northwest Indiana's Radio One Communications received two first place awards from the Indiana Broadcasters Association's (IBA) 21st Annual Spectrum Awards held in Indianapolis Saturday, November 8, 2008.
The Indiana 105 Dawn Patrol – Steve Zana and Laura Waluszko – won a Spectrum Award for Best Radio Station Broadcast Personality or Team, and Creative Director/Midday Personality Mac MacLeod received a Spectrum Award for Commercial Series, featuring a series of commercials for Ludington Nissan, both top honors for their market size category.
"We have a staff that works hard to provide top-quality radio programming for Northwest Indiana, and it's great to see their efforts recognized on a statewide basis,” said Radio One Communications President/General Manager Leigh Ellis.
“Steve and Laura have been entertaining and informing Northwest Indiana for over a decade,” said Ellis. “Mac has consistently produced award-winning commercials, and this year's recognition for the Ludington commercials are another example of his work.”
Indiana 105 (WLJE-FM) received seven nominations overall in its market designation, including Station of the Year for the third in a row, Newscast, Community Involvement, Humorous Commercial, and a second nomination for Commercial Series. Station of the Year looks at a station's overall efforts in a number of areas including community service, creative listener and sales promotions, commercial production, news and features.
Director of Programming Don Clark said, "It's always wonderful to be nominated. Then to be recognized by our peers and receive the awards, it is a very special feeling. We are all very proud of the team here at Radio One Communications.”
The IBA says its Spectrum Awards recognize “broadcast excellence for outstanding achievement in broadcasting by Indiana radio and television stations”. The competition is open to all FCC licensed radio stations and television stations in Indiana.
Radio One Communications owns and operates four radio stations – Indiana 105.5 (WLJE-FM), X-Rock 103.9 (WXRD-FM), Z107.1 (WZVN-FM), and AM-1500 The Music of Your Life (WAKE-AM).
